Google App Password Guide

Learn how to create an App Password for secure email access

To automatically verify your FamPay payments, our system needs to scan emails from no-reply@famapp.in. Google App Passwords provide secure, restricted access to your Gmail without sharing your main password.

1

Enable 2-Step Verification

App Passwords require 2-Step Verification to be enabled on your Google Account.

  1. Go to Google Account Security
  2. Under "Signing in to Google", select 2-Step Verification
  3. Click Get started and follow the setup process
  4. Verify your phone number with a code
2

Generate App Password

Once 2-Step Verification is active, create a dedicated password for our service.

  1. Visit Google App Passwords
  2. Sign in to your Google Account if prompted
  3. At the bottom, click Select app and choose Mail
  4. Click Select device and choose Other (Custom name)
  5. Type FamPay Gateway and click Generate
  6. Copy the 16-character password (format: xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx)

Important: This password will be shown only once. Store it safely in your password manager. If you lose it, you'll need to generate a new one. Never share this password with anyone.

3

Connect to FamPay Gateway

Paste your App Password into your FamPay Gateway dashboard to enable automatic payment verification.

  1. Log in to your FamPay Gateway account
  2. Navigate to the API Settings tab
  3. Enter your Gmail address (the one receiving FamPay notifications)
  4. Paste your Google App Password
  5. Click Save & Generate API Key

Your credentials are encrypted and stored securely. We only scan emails from no-reply@famapp.in and never access any other emails in your inbox.

Troubleshooting

  • "App Password option not showing" - Ensure 2-Step Verification is fully enabled, not just added a phone number.
  • "Login failed" - Make sure you're using the App Password, not your regular Gmail password.
  • "IMAP access denied" - Enable IMAP in Gmail Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP > IMAP Access.
  • "Less secure app access" - Google has deprecated this. Use App Passwords instead.
